How Pixel Engine Academy Pty Ltd Started
It all began with a simple observation. Godot was becoming more powerful, but quality training in Australia was hard to find. We decided to change that.
The Beginning
Back in 2019, our founder noticed something frustrating. Game developers wanted to learn Godot, but most tutorials were scattered online and didn’t build real project skills. We started with just two evening classes and eight students in a small office space. Those first classes weren’t fancy—just passion and solid teaching—but people saw the difference. They weren’t just learning syntax; they were actually building games.
Growing Through Community
Word spread fast. By 2021, we’d moved to a proper training facility and expanded to weekend workshops. We’ve trained artists, programmers, students, career-changers, and hobbyists. What surprised us most wasn’t the variety of people—it’s that they all had something in common. They wanted to create something real, and they didn’t want fluff. We don’t teach theory divorced from practice. Every lesson includes hands-on projects. By the end of our courses, you’re not just understanding nodes and scenes. You’ve actually shipped a complete game.
Where We Are Now
Today, Pixel Engine Academy Pty Ltd runs courses every month, maintains an active community Slack channel with over 200 members, and we’ve become the go-to training provider for Godot in the Wollongong area. We’ve trained game jam winners, published indie developers, and professionals working in studios. That matters to us because it means our students don’t just complete courses—they actually ship games and build careers.
